Help
Help on the floor and by phone
- Gambling Support BC answers 1-888-795-6111 around the clock, free, for any BC resident. Families and friends worried about someone else's gambling can call too.
- Every casino in BC has a GameSense Advisor available, and Casino Nanaimo also has a GameSense Info Centre on site.
- BCLC runs Game Break, a voluntary self-exclusion program whose terms last 6 months or 1, 2 or 3 years. Once picked, a term cannot be changed, and it applies to PlayNow.com as well as to BC casinos, bingo halls and community gaming centres.
- Signing up is done at a gaming facility in person, or in a meeting held online with a BCLC employee. From then on, the photo ID scanned at the door of any BC casino is compared with the list of barred people.
Method
The desk and its method
The First Night desk is the collective name this guide is written and signed under. There is no named author and no personal byline. The young woman with short platinum hair in the drawings is a generated character: not a real person, not casino staff and not the author.
Facts were checked on October 14, 2026. The sources: Casino Nanaimo's own pages, BCLC's listing of the casino, BC Transit open data, BC Ferries and provincial government pages.
All times in the guide are Pacific time. The planners run inside your browser tab and keep nothing you enter except the light or dark theme, for that tab. Only the home page carries paid links, and every one of them is labelled Ad. All of them lead to one private online casino, a partner that may change and that pays this guide a commission.
Owners
Owners and operators
Snuneymuxw First Nation owns Casino Nanaimo through Petroglyph Development Group, its economic development company. That company bought the casino from Great Canadian on January 16, 2025. Before then, Great Canadian had operated it since it opened in 1986. Day-to-day running is in the hands of Lahal Casino Management LP. The guide has no tie to any of them.
Questions
Quick answers
The desk answers from the facts checked for this guide. Tap a question to open the answer.
Can someone call Gambling Support BC about a partner's or parent's gambling?
Family and friends can call too. Gambling Support BC answers 1-888-795-6111 around the clock, free, for any BC resident, including people worried about someone else's gambling.
What if a Game Break term later feels too long?
Once picked, it is fixed. Whichever Game Break length is selected, 6 months or 1, 2 or 3 years, it cannot be altered afterwards. The length is worth weighing before enrolling.
Is the woman with platinum hair in the drawings a real person?
No, she is a generated character. She is not casino staff and not the author; the First Night desk signs the guide.
