Doors open

Doors and breakfast at 10 a.m.

The doors open at 10 a.m. every day of the week. The Well Public House, the casino's pub, opens at the same hour and serves food from breakfast onward. From opening, more than 400 slot machines are ready on the floor, and a spin can cost as little as one cent.

At noon, the Action Arena opens. It holds the electronic tables, which run table games on machines with no dealer: $1 Roulette, $2 Blackjack and $5 Baccarat. No closing time is posted for it.

Weeknights

A weeknight, Monday to Thursday

Monday to Thursday, the live tables open at 4 p.m. with their dealer-run games: Ultimate Texas Hold'em, RUYI Baccarat, Free Bet Blackjack and Kings Bounty Blackjack. At 5 p.m. the poker room opens, dealing $1/$3 No Limit Texas Hold'em, where No Limit means a player can wager every chip they have on the table. Both the tables and poker close at midnight.

The Well Public House also closes at midnight. Doors close at 1 a.m., an hour after the tables. Poker seats go through a waitlist, the list of players waiting for a seat, and you must be inside to join it.

Friday and Saturday

Late Fridays and Saturdays

On Friday and Saturday the live tables open much earlier, at 11 a.m. Poker starts at noon. Both run until 2 a.m., and so do The Well Public House and the doors themselves.

Sunday follows the weekend pattern by day and the weekday pattern at night. Live tables open at 11 a.m. and poker at noon, both closing at midnight. The Well also closes at midnight, and the doors close at 1 a.m. A poker player paged three times who does not show is taken off the waitlist automatically. Holiday hours are not published, so call 250-753-3033.

Getting there

Reaching Terminal Avenue

Casino Nanaimo is at 620 Terminal Ave, downtown. In a straight line it sits 3.3 km from the Departure Bay ferry terminal and 3.2 km from Duke Point. Departure Bay has frequent transit to downtown.

Duke Point lies across the harbour, so the road from there is longer than the line, and it has no public transit. Foot passengers there need a taxi, a rideshare or a pickup.

If you are coming by bus, note that some 240 m separate the casino from Bay D of the Downtown Nanaimo Exchange in a straight line. The stop at Victoria Cres at Albert St is closer, roughly 150 m from the door. Routes 1 Nanaimo Rapid Line, 5, 6, 20, 20A, 30 and 72 call there. A third stop, Front St at Museum Way, sits roughly 180 m off. Parking at the casino is free, but there is no hotel and no shuttle.
